“Understand Us” is a presentation program for teen audiences designed to help teens use critical thinking skills to analyze the complex concerns of our world. This multi-media program engages students in an educational experience like no other. “Understand Us” events is a theatrical performance which mixes live hip-hop music, acting and video content. Students witness and participate in a show that educates, inspires, and stimulates.

WHO IS "UNDERSTAND US" EVENTS?

Howard Egger-Bovet, Producer "Understand Us" Events

Howard Egger-Bovet holds a degree in Psychology and Performing Arts as well as having a California Teaching Credential.  He has taught for over 20 years and has performed his one-man history shows for thousands of children nationwide.  His performances have been highly praised by Mitchell Korn, Founder of ArtsVision, the national leader in arts in education.  Mr. Egger-Bovet is also the co-author of the award-nominated, five-book series USKids History Series by Little Brown, which has garnered great reviews from the New York Times and the Boston Globe.   In addition, Mr. Egger-Bovet has been a guest on TV and numerous national radio programs such as Talk America, AP News, and he has taped shows for NPR’s affiliate WNYE in Brooklyn, New York

Mr. Egger-Bovet is currently President of Find the Fun Productions, an educational media production company producing original hip-hop films on complex 21st issues and multi-media educational events. The film productions are sponsored by the San Francisco Film Society and have garnered film-festival awards and regional television coverage.

In addition, Find the Fun Productions is dedicated to distributing its original, theatrical programming on American history that is relevant, interactive, and entertaining.   His first production, directed by Oscar-winner Bert Salzman, is titled “American Colonies/American Revolution” and has received praise from notable publications such as School Library Journal, Booklist, and Social Studies Review.  Find the Fun Productions’ second production was “The Civil War: American Against American.” In September of 2006, “The American Constitution: Bundle of Compromises” was released and won the MarCom Gold Award in the Video/Film/Educational category for “talent exceeding a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry.” This production has also received 2 coveted Telly Awards as well as being endorsed by the Kids First  organization: coalition for quality children’s media.  Lastly, this production was honored as a finalist for Association of Educational Publishers Distinguished Achievement Award, an “Oscar” nomination in the educational industry.

Howard Egger-Bovet and Find the Fun Productions continues to produce films, and is in 2012 pre-production of “Struggle by Design.”


SUB, Songwriter/Artist/Performer

SUB has performed throughout the state of California with some of the best known Main Stream and Underground artists and groups in the industry including: Tha P.A.K., Kaynine, Skit-So, Mistah Fab, Wu Tang, The Team, 600 Boyz, Kevin Never Talks of High Road Music, Shill Mac, and others. Currently, SUB is working on a solo album, and a series of projects with Find the Fun Productions.


Mike Abela, 2nd Assistant Director/Editor

Mike Abela is a recent-graduate of San Francisco State University. Mike Abela filmography has numerous production credits ranging from documentary, to commercial, to educational. His documentary film, " En el Salon de las Promesas" garnered an Honorable Mention at Sonoma International Film Festival, as well as best music video for, "Nobody Knows Where the Bullet Goes." Abela's Jamican music videos are well known and regulary appear on Carribean radio and TV.


Barry Stone, Director of Photography

Over the last twenty-five years Barry has worked in all aspects of theatre, film and television. He has professional credits as an actor, composer and director in the theatre, and as a producer, director, writer, composer, actor, cinematographer and editor in film and television.


Through his company, Stone Film Inc, he has been the associate producer of a feature film, Leather Wings and has produced, directed and edited several half hours for television, as well as numerous commercials and industrial films. His music video company Zap Video produced music promos for such artists as Murray Mclaughlan, The Barenaked Ladies and The Tragically Hip. Recently Stone Film designed and created the opening credits and bumpers for the CBC series Jake and Jill.


Barry has played the lead role in a half hour film The Mourner, has written and scored music for both theatre and film and has been the cinematographer on forty-seven episodes of series television, six MOWs, numerous commercials and twentyone feature films, notably Lie with me, Mouth to Mouth, Tweek City, Cherish, Youthanasia, Hollywood North, Triggermen, Pale Saints, Paris France, Rude, Dumbarton Bridge, 
The Perfect Son and Dream with the Fishes.


His directorial credits include four episodes of the British hit series rENFORD rEJECTS, filmed in London for Nickelodeon and Channel Four. "All Ways Welcome", which he produced and directed for the Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Recreation, besides winning numerous awards in Canada and the U.S., was the 1992 winner of the ITVA Canada Production Achievement Award, and went on to win in the Information category at the ITVA International in Munich.


Barry has received a Gemini nomination for writing, two Genie nominations and three C.S.C. awards for cinematography, as well a Casbee award for a music video.
